Q who?

Q Entertainment, wacko!

They are the ingenious developers behind Meteos [DS] and Lumines [PSP], the hit puzzle games released exclusively for the two handheld gaming consoles.

I acquired my own copy of Meteos 2 days ago… and oh boy this is a sweet game! I’ve been playing ever since, and twice, my DS died on me.

The game has lots to offer, be it an intensive single-player mode (Star Run, Single game or Challenges), or the ever popular single-cart multiplayer mode. All the little things they added to the game (catchy songs, draggable menus, statistics, unlockables, etc…), adds so much to the game itself besides the simple, yet effective puzzle style.

I’d personally recommend Meteos to every DS owners who are looking for a good pick-up-and-play game that lasts more than a couple of weeks of gameplay (unlike others).

But wait, there’s more! I didn’t mention Lumines without a reason.

I also got my hands on the Lumines Remixes OST. Featuring a whopping 44 full lenght tunes + bonus tracks, this one is a must for game music fans. I never played Lumines yet, but I tried this clone for PC which is actually quite good, but missing the important part, the original music.

Oh how I wish it could be ported to the DS… seems like a simple game that wouldn’t need much modification to port. At least the PSP users won’t get Meteos anytime soon.

I’ll have to play Meteos, if I really like it, I’ll buy it later. I really want lumines though, so I *REALLY* hope they port it to something other than the PSP…. I know they can do it! Do it on PS2 if you wanna stay in the Playstation brand, I wouldn’t mind, just give me a good port/updated version I can play! :P

There are only 40 songs on the Lumines OST, the four commersially licensed tunes from the game were intentionally left out due to that they were already released as singles on sony music. If you got your hands on a copy with 44 tunes plus bonus tracks you either paid for a bootlegged copy or you simply downloaded a pirated rip with the other tunes packed in.

Also by playing a remake of the game you miss a whole lot more than just the music, you miss the way the music interact with the gameplay, how the pace of the tune set the pace of the gameplay, how the graphical style of each skin is perfectly suited to the ambience set by the music. You played a lackluster counterfeit game and I pity you for that.

Also I do not believe you’ll ever see Lumines on the DS, both Meteos and Lumines were ingeniously designed to make use of the hardware they run on, Meteos wouldn’t work on PSP for technical reasons and Lumines wouldn’t work on the DS for artistical reasons.

Nice touch with the Star Trek reference though..

The sole reason that I’ve played the PC cloned version is that I don’t own a PSP, I don’t plan to, and none of my friends got one that I could try it on.

Still, this is a game that I’d really like to get my hands on, but for now my DS has the priority over Sony’s fancy products. ;p

Yeah, PSPs are too expensive at the moment, andLumines is the only game I’ve seen that’s worthwhile for it… I won’t pay ~400$+ to play lumines. :P

agree with A_Lee_N - you’ll never see either game ported for the other system - aside from artistic reasons, there are probably other DS audio hardware limitations that would prevent you from getting the full experience. and yes, the clone pales really badly in comparison - only way to play lumines is with a good set of headphones and a few hours to kill.

I have both a DS and a PSP, and they’re both awesome for different reasons. oddly enough, the PSP was worth it just for lumines - i think i logged more time into that one game than all of my DS games put together (~80-90 hours so far). hard to say how long that will be true, since i just picked up meteos yesterday :)

Haha, yeah. I’m now at 20 hours of gameplay in Meteos, and still actively playing. :D
Most of those hours are from multiplayer sessions… 5h+ of those actually. I’m having a blast playing with my buddies, and each having a cart adds so much more to the multiplayer experience.
